John Michael & Alyssa // A Rainy Yellowleaf Creek Mill Wedding in Clanton, AL
Alyssa and John Michael were married at Yellowleaf Creek Mill in Clanton, Alabama, surrounded by family, friends, and a forecast that threatened rain all day long.
I first photographed these two over a year ago during their engagement session at the Avenue of the Oaks at Spring Hill College, so it was such a joy to be back documenting another chapter of their story.
As wedding day approached, the forecast continued to worsen. A few hours before the ceremony, Alyssa made the decision to move forward with the outdoor ceremony overlooking Yellowleaf Creek anyway. If it rained, the plan was for the guests to take cover beneath the nearby reception space. Then, just as the processional began, the rain arrived. While many guests watched from the covered reception space, several family members grabbed umbrellas and remained seated in the uncovered ceremony area so they could witness every moment firsthand. It was one of those reminders that a little rain can't compete with the people who love you most.
Following the ceremony, guests celebrated inside the historic Yellowleaf Creek Mill, a beautifully restored 1800s grist mill full of character, history, and charm. Between the creek views, the historic mill, and the unwavering support of family and friends, it was a wedding day no one will soon forget.
