Betsy reached out to me to book a senior session for her son, Henry. He was graduating high school in Tuscaloosa and loves the University of Alabama, so naturally we had to do his senior portraits in Tuscaloosa. We managed to find a Friday that worked for us both and we decided to start at the Roll Tide bridge, and then finish up at the Federal Building downtown.
The day of the session arrived and traffic got the best of both of us (have you ever driven around downtown Northport at 5pm? It's insane....something I made mental note of for next time). Henry wanted to get to his high school's baseball game that night as it was the last one of the school year, so he wanted to end this session on time or even earlier. I made mental note as I understand how important your last high school events are.
We started at the Roll Tide bridge. This is a quintessential photo stop for Tuscaloosa, AL. If you google 'places to take photos in Tuscaloosa, AL' inevitably this spot will pop up as one of them. I hadn't actually taken photos there myself, even when attending school at UA. I had no idea just how many cars would be passing by, NON-stop. Every single portrait you see below, I had to edit cars out of. I left some in if they didn't detract but spent a lot of time removing cars. (PRAISE the LORD for AI helping speed this up!)
We then migrated to the Federal Building - Betsy admitted to me later that she didn't necessary see my vision for the spot, but upon receiving the images was blown away by what the white stone offered as a clean backdrop. As we were finishing up this spot, Henry was itching to get to the baseball game, that had already started, but Betsy talked him into swinging by Denny Chimes to grab a few more images. I promised it wouldn't take 5 minutes once we got there.
The construction made it difficult to get there but we found a spot to park (faculty only, but we wouldn't be long). Also, it started to lightly rain the second we got out of the car. It wasn't enough to be of concern to damaging my camera, but we both now had a reason to make this stop quick.
We sent Henry off to his game, I chatted with Betsy a little longer, as she is a friend of ours then headed home to get these edited quickly. Betsy needed them rush edited to get her graduation cards out in time. I finished them up and was very pleased with the final edits. Overcast skies may be easy to shoot clean images in, but I always prefer the pop that comes with a sunny afternoon.
I am very happy with the final results, which you can see below. If you too need senior portraits or cap and gown images in Tuscaloosa, AL, please feel free to reach out. I would love to be your Tuscaloosa Lifestyle Photographer or Tuscaloosa graduate photographer!
