Tuscaloosa Engagement Session // The Tuscaloosa Riverwalk, The Federal Building, & Coastal Cowgirl Cafe
Ashton & Jennah’s Tuscaloosa engagement session took place on a surprisingly warm, overcast February afternoon. We knew from the beginning that we wanted a mix of downtown Tuscaloosa engagement photos, a cozy coffee shop vibe, and romantic portraits along the Tuscaloosa Riverwalk. Jennah also had a vision for photos at blue hour on the lighted pedestrian bridge near the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater, and I was fully on board. Our pre-engagement session discussion really helped me hone in on how best to capture Jennah and Ashton as a couple, because every couple is truly different.
We started at the Federal Building in downtown Tuscaloosa because its clean white exterior always creates dreamy, timeless photos no matter the lighting. Ashton and Jennah were amazing in front of the camera from the start. They flowed so naturally between posed and prompted moments, and their chemistry made every photo feel effortless. After the Federal Building, we wandered through downtown looking for a coffee shop that wasn’t packed. Since it was a Sunday afternoon, many places were closed and the open spots were crowded. Thankfully, we found Coastal Cowgirl Cafe with an empty table right by the window. We slipped in, grabbed a few drinks to support the cafe, asked permission to take photos, and captured some quick moments inside. The cozy atmosphere gave these photos such a different feel from the clean, editorial vibe of the Federal Building.
From there, we headed to the Tuscaloosa Riverwalk for sunset photos by the water. By this point in the session, I had discovered that Ashton and Jennah were incredible at movement-based prompts. They were so natural together, so we incorporated lots of dancing, dips, and lifts throughout this part of the evening. To finish the session, we stopped at the pedestrian bridge near the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater and waited for the lights to come on. Once the bridge lit up, we captured a few final moments with more dancing, prompts, and relaxed poses against the glow of downtown Tuscaloosa at night.
It was such a lovely evening getting to know Ashton and Jennah better, and sessions like this always make me even more excited for the wedding day. I already know this summer’s wedding is going to be something special.
