An August wedding at First Presbyterian Church of Demopolis + The Demopolis Civic Center — documented by Mary H Media.
This was a love-filled August wedding in Demopolis, AL at the First Presbyterian Church of Demopolis with a stunning reception at sunset on the Tombigbee river at the Demopolis Civic Center. Mary of Mary H Media was the Wedding photographer. If you're seeking a Demopolis wedding photographer, I would love nothing more than to serve you! I recently moved to Tuscaloosa but Demopolis is still very much in my coverage area (with no travel fees)! Check out my wedding packages here.
Originally the bride said she only needed portraits, wedding, and reception coverage. I encouraged her to tack on a small amount of getting ready coverage as well. This is not about me making extra money - I have seen way too many precious moments take place during the getting ready hours. For this reason, I usually encourage my couples to start my coverage when the bride is getting her hair done, (if they can afford it, of course). Also, if you want the quintessential detail shots, I take those when you're getting ready. As silly as they may seem, you will want to remember the essence of your day - what did your invites you spent hours tweaking look like, what did you smell like, what shoes did you wear. All those items can live in a singular photo for the rest of your life, rather than having to keep the physical items stored away in a shadow box.
Anyways, we agreed to do a small amount of morning coverage so I arrived first at the girls' getting-ready house (LuSee's Bed and Breakfast). I grabbed the detail items (custom embroidered shoes) then headed to the church, where the florals were being delivered. The church is less than a half mile away so I knew this and planned for this beforehand. The florals however arrived later than we had planned so I took the images without them. I snagged some pics of the groomsmen playing frisbee at the church, then headed back to LuSee's where I took some friend-first-looks.
After some getting ready and detail shots, we rolled right into the first look. The sun was peeping in and out of the clouds so you'll notice some speckle lighting throughout, but I think it made for a more overall artistic aesthetic. This couple is SO clearly very deeply in love and I love getting to see that through my lens.
After first looks, I was able to swing by the Demopolis Civic Center for detail shots and WOW the lighting in there was stunning with all those windows. I have never seen playing cards as a wedding favor but LOVE the idea. I then headed back to the church, got some shots of the church decorated.
Next up was family and bridal portraits. Some photographers might consider this their least favorite part of the day but I honestly find it very fun. It was so brutally hot outside, though, that the family requested the photos be indoors. I warned them that the lighting just wouldnt be as fantastic in there and would impact the portraits.
We cruised right through family portraits (something I can excel in doing is pushing through family portraits quickly). There was enough time between portraits and the wedding start time that I convinced the bride to take the bridal portraits again outside and I am SO happy they agreed. You'll see why:
After the portraits, the bridal party had a little time to cool down before the wedding started so I got some guest photos and awaited the start of the wedding. I am so pleased with how the photos came out, too. The bright colors the guests were wearing really popped. The wedding itself was so Christ-centered and God-filled. This couple was truly united by The Lord and their love for one another is so evident and strong because of it.
Everyone migrated from the church over to The Demopolis Civic Center for the reception and I just want to say - I LOVE shooting here. The light the venue lets in is truly stunning. If you are having a wedding at the Demopolis Civic Center and need a wedding photographer - you can contact me here.
It was truly an honor to document this couple's memories of their wedding. I did pull the couple aside for a couple more editorial-posed images at the bar they were not using - I had passed by it like 15 times and every time I passed I mentally said "I REALLY want to take a photo of the bride and groom here". I asked if they were willing and luckily for us all they were!
The rest of the time, I just let them experience their reception, per their request. I was a fly on the wall - but a very hard to swat fly. The mother of the groom told me at the end of the reception that she was so impressed that I was somehow everywhere all the time - every time there was a moment she thought needed to be photographed - there I was photographing it. I took that as such an incredible compliment, because that is my goal.
Truly enjoyed photographing this wedding. I am so pleased with the gallery and was pleased to hear the couple was too.
